Alto Alegre

Who are they?

Alto Alegre Coffees is managed by a family of traditional coffee growers who have cultivated the fertile soil of South Minas Gerais since 1880.

Today the 5th generation continues this passion for the coffee business.

Passion for coffee

Our passion for coffee began at the end of the 19th century with Mr. João Luís de Almeida, who created the coffee plantation, passing this on to his son Antônio Luís de Almeida, and grandson, our grandfather, Mr. Benedito Conceição.

Our family is dedicated to the cultivation and production of the best speciality coffee from the South of Minas Gerais.

The Farm

Located in the city of Jacutinga (Southern Minas Gerais), in the High Frontier Mogiana, the farm is in the optimal place to grow Arabica Coffee.

In addition to the ideal climate and soil, they are at an extremely favourable altitude for the cultivation of high quality special coffees, with crops that can reach 1,340m (4,400ft).

The total area of Alto Alegre Farm is 520 hectares, the area devoted to coffee cultivation is 65 hectares with remaining area devoted to growing cereals and preserving natural resources.

The Coffees

The coffees produced on our farm are primarily of the Mundo Novo, Yellow Bourbon and Catuaí varieties which have complex profiles and flavour nuances rarely found.

We export our coffee internationally including to Italy, UK, Ireland, Japan, Russia and South Korea.

We were a finalist in the Illy Coffee Quality Award and the Cup of Excellence of BSCA (Brazil Specialty Coffee Association).
